Within the framework of the “Corruption Status Book” series, “Partners for Transparency” PFT continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up incidents of corruption, and here is the seventh report issued by the institution, which focuses on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as an inventory of the facts covered by it. Various media outlets during January 2016.

The month of January 2016 witnessed the issuance of the report of the fact-finding committee formed by the President of the Republic to verify the correctness of the figures contained in the statements of Counselor Hisham Geneina, which he released in December 2015, in which the cost of corruption in Egypt was estimated at 600 billion pounds in four years, as the committee concluded in its report inaccuracy. The facts and referred the whole matter to the House of Representatives as the supervisory authority, and the matter is still pending.

The same month also witnessed the issuance of Transparency International's annual corruption perceptions report, which showed Egypt's ranking from 94th in the world to 88th in the world, in addition to what the month witnessed in the statements of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi that included affirmations of the state's determination to fight corruption.

  • Saturday, January 2 The work of the first conference of the states parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Agreement was launched at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo over a period of two days, with the participation of the heads of the Arab national bodies and committees concerned with combating corruption.
  • Monday, January 4 The Administrative Prosecution Authority organized the first specialized course for the newly created units, at the headquarters of the National Center for Social and Criminal Research, under the patronage of Dr. Nisreen Al-Baghdadi, Director of the Center, to develop the performance of prosecutors with the aim of completing investigations into corruption cases.
