As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, “Partners for Transparency” continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up on corruption incidents, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during the month of May 2021, and classifying them by sector. Geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are most concentrated.

May recorded 104 corruption incidents in about 9 major sectors, compared to 205 incidents recorded last April, a decrease rate of 49%, which is the largest drop recorded in just one month, which indicates a good impact on anti-corruption efforts throughout the months. past. The catering sector ranked first in the number of corruption incidents, with 72 incidents and 59% of the total corruption incidents during the month of May, followed by the health sector with 12 incidents and 11%.

Geographically, the Beheira governorate ranked first at the level of the Republic in corruption incidents during the month of May, with 12 incidents and 11% of the total incidents under study, and Menoufia and Cairo ranked second with 9 corruption incidents for each governorate, and 9% of the total incidents of corruption. We were equal to three governorates, namely “Sharqia, Dakahlia, and Alexandria” with 8 corruption incidents per governorate, and 8% of the total incidents for each governorate.
