Corruption case book for the month of June

30% An increase in incidents of corruption during June, and catering is still the most corrupt

As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, “Partners for Transparency” continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up on corruption incidents, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during the month of June 2021, and classifying them by sector. Geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are concentrated.

The month of June recorded 152 corruption incidents in eight major sectors, compared to 104 incidents recorded last May, an increase of 31.5%, which reflects a growing number of corruption incidents in June. As usual, violations related to the catering sector came first with 79 incidents of corruption and 52% of the total corruption incidents during the month of June, followed by the health sector with 26 incidents and 11%.

Geographically, Al-Buhaira governorate ranked first at the level of the Republic in corruption incidents during the month of June with 19 incidents and a rate of 12% of the total incidents under study, and Giza Governorate came in second place with 15 incidents and a rate of 10% of the total incidents of corruption, while representing 5 governorates alone, namely “Al-Buhaira Alexandria, Luxor, Cairo, Giza”, collectively representing 44% of corruption incidents at the level of the Republic, which makes them the most corrupt governorates during June 2021
