“Partners call for developing secure electronic platforms for reporting corruption in accordance with international best practices”

Partners for Transparency Foundation issued a study entitled “Developing Safe Electronic Platforms for Reporting Corruption: A Study of Technologies and International Experiences”, which addressed the importance of using modern technology in providing safe channels for reporting corruption, while highlighting successful international experiences in this field.

The study indicated that developing secure electronic platforms is a vital tool for enhancing transparency and accountability, as these platforms allow citizens to confidentially report corruption incidents without fear of retaliation or revealing their identity. The study also confirmed that many countries that adopted these technical solutions witnessed a significant increase in the rates of reporting corruption, which contributed to uncovering violations and improving the efficiency of government institutions.

In this regard, Ahmed Issa, Director of the Foundation’s Research Unit, stated: “The study confirms that developing secure electronic platforms can be a pivotal step in combating corruption, but the success of these platforms depends on the availability of legislation that protects whistleblowers, the use of modern technologies to ensure data confidentiality, and enhancing citizens’ confidence in the effectiveness of reporting.”

The study concluded by presenting a set of recommendations, most notably enhancing cybersecurity and protecting user data, establishing a supportive legal framework to protect whistleblowers, improving ease of access to platforms, developing community awareness campaigns, and enhancing cooperation between governments, civil society, and the private sector to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of these platforms.
