Partners recommend tightening oversight of local government and the financial sector to enhance transparency and combat corruption in Egypt.

Partners for Transparency released its monthly report, "Corruption Report for March 2025," documenting 62 corruption incidents across various sectors, marking a decrease of 11.41 TP3T compared to February. The report showed that the financial and banking sector and the local government sector shared the top spot on the list of the most corrupt sectors, with 29.031 TP3T each, followed by the supply sector with 20.961 TP3T, then the education sector with 17.741 TP3T, and finally the health sector with 3.221 TP3T.

Cairo governorate recorded the highest number of incidents, with 29,031 TP3T, followed by Giza and Qalyubia governorates. The report indicated increased efforts by regulatory and executive authorities to combat corruption, with more than 18 campaigns against money laundering crimes being carried out, in addition to 13 campaigns to combat commercial fraud in the supply sector. Judicial authorities also continued to prosecute those involved, issuing strict sentences in cases of embezzlement, administrative violations, and waste of public funds.

In this context, Ahmed Issa, Director of the Foundation's Research and Studies Unit, said: "The report reflects a relative decline in the number of corruption incidents, but the continued dominance of vital sectors such as local government and the financial sector requires a pause to develop oversight tools and enhance transparency."

The report recommended improving oversight of financial transactions using artificial intelligence technologies, intensifying inspection campaigns on unlicensed educational entities, strengthening governance procedures in the local government sector, supporting the issuance of legislation to protect whistleblowers, and imposing harsher penalties on perpetrators.
