Corruption incidents increased by 5%, and in March there were 220 incidents of corruption

Within the framework of the Corruption Status Book series, Partners for Transparency continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up incidents of corruption, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as counting the facts that were revealed during the month of March 2021, and classifying them by sector. Geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that most witness incidents of corruption, as well as the governorates where these incidents are most concentrated.

The Sohag train collision was the most prominent case during the month of March, which left dozens dead and injured, in an incident that reveals the existence of corruption and great neglect in the railway facility.

With regard to corruption incidents, 220 corruption incidents were recorded during the month of March in about 8 major sectors, compared to 208 recorded last February, i.e. an increase of 5%, and the ration irregularities topped for the second month in a row, incidents of corruption during the month of March, with 140 incidents. 64% out of the total incidents of corruption, followed by the health sector with 38 incidents, and 17%.

Geographically, Beheira governorate ranked first at the republic level in terms of corruption incidents, with 23 incidents during the month of March and 10% of the total incidents under study, followed by Giza governorate with 22 incidents, while South Sinai came at the bottom of the ranking with one corruption incident.
