Digital transformation is a window to fight corruption in African countries

The Africa Corruption Observatory Unit of the Partners for Transparency Foundation released a study entitled “Digital Transformation as a Mechanism to Combat Corruption in African Countries”

In its four axes, the study dealt with the concept of digital transformation in the first, and how there is relative agreement about the concept and its implications, and in the second it focused on the vision of the African Union for digital transformation through its strategy for digital transformation 2020-2030, then the study showed in the third axis how it can contribute By the shift towards digitization in promoting the values of integrity and equality in the government sector by eliminating the discretionary power of public employees and the consequent elimination of mediation and favoritism, and in the fourth and final axis I dealt with the challenges facing digital transformation processes in African countries, which the study divided into political and other challenges Economic and third technology related to digital infrastructure in the continent.

The study found a number of results, including that digital transformation has become an indispensable necessity in combating corruption in the various sectors of the African country, especially in the health sector in light of the spread of the Corona virus, and among the results was that digital transformation at the level of interactions between Among African countries, it must be preceded by a process to promote digital transformation in African countries separately.

Through the study, the Partners Foundation recommended that African countries reconsider the amount of financial resources that have been allocated to complete the digital transformation process in their various sectors. The study also recommended civil society institutions concerned with the matter to undertake more efforts in order to stimulate the political will of the ruling elites in order to take policies. Reality that would tackle corruption by shifting towards digitalization in the government sector, and making data available for such organizations to play their role in oversight and awareness.
