"Jad Al-Karim" calls for reducing the ceiling for pretrial detention

Dr. Walaa Jad al-Karim, president of the Partners for Transparency Foundation, said that the remand punishment was arbitrary.

“Jad al-Karim” demanded, during special statements to “Vito”, the necessity of reducing the ceiling of preventive detention from what is stipulated now, stressing that this punishment mainly responded to the state’s fear of the escape of perpetrators of crimes during the investigation period, but below that, especially in negative cases. The “President of the Foundation” clarified the role of civil society organizations, headed by the National Council for Human Rights, in defending those imprisoned in custody for cases who exceeded the period stipulated by the law, which is two years without a judicial ruling or release, especially since this constitutes a clear violation of the constitution and the law.

He emphasized that parliament has an important legislative role regarding the period of pretrial detention, by exercising its role in enacting laws that are commensurate with the changes that have occurred in Egypt after two popular revolutions.Vito
