Yesterday, Partners for Transparency Association (PFT) launched an initiative, the first of its kind in Egypt, to monitor electoral financing and spending in a number of electoral districts. The initiative bears the slogan “Our Voices Against Your Money”.
According to Dr. Walaa Jad Al-Karim, Executive Director of the Foundation, “Partners for Transparency”, through the initiative “Our Voices Against Your Money”, seeks to contribute to achieving the integrity of the upcoming House of Representatives elections by opposing the phenomenon of using money to influence the will of the electorate, in addition to developing “entrances”. Effective tools that can be used extensively later to enhance the role of civil society organizations in monitoring “electoral financing and spending”, and to ensure that candidates and parties adhere to the legal framework that governs.
The initiative will be implemented in “five Egyptian governorates”, which are the governorates of Cairo, Fayoum, Alexandria, Dakahlia and Port Said. The governorates and districts within each governorate have been selected so as to give a good indication of the nature of the funding, financial spending throughout the electoral process, as well as to facilitate the process of disseminating results and recommendations.
