As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, Partners for Transparency continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up on corruption incidents in Egypt, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during August 2022. and categorizing them sectorally and geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are most concentrated.

According to the Foundation’s report, August recorded a significant increase in the number of corruption incidents, as 215 incidents were recorded, compared to 180 corruption incidents recorded last July, which represents an increase of 19% in the corruption rate. 96 incidents of corruption were recorded, with a rate of 45% of the total incidents witnessed in August, followed closely by the agriculture sector and land encroachment with 62 incidents and 29% of the total incidents under study, and the health sector came in third place with 24 corruption incidents and 11% of the total incidents of corruption.

Geographically, and repeatedly, Beheira governorate ranked first in the Egyptian governorates in terms of corruption incidents during the month of August, with 20 incidents and 9% of the total incidents, while 4 governorates combined recorded 33% of the total corruption incidents at the republic level, making it The most corrupt governorates during August, and the governorates are “Buhaira, Sharkia, Giza, and Gharbia.”
