On Friday, Egypt won the membership of the International Law Commission, represented by Africa, during the elections held today at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, in which 11 candidates from the African continent competed for membership, and Ambassador Hussein Hassouna was represented by the membership of the committee, winning 146 votes.

Amending charters 

Dr. Muhammad Atallah, a professor of international law, said: “The International Law Committee of the United Nations is entrusted with making amendments that may occur to the charters and treaties of the United Nations, and the victory of Egypt as the representative of Africa in the committee confirms that Egypt possesses international academic competencies that qualify it to win this position. The historical role of Egypt

"Egypt was one of the founding countries of the United Nations in 1945, and it had children who influenced the various UN committees, and they have a historical role," the professor of international law added in exclusive statements to the "Veto".

International recognition 

For his part, human rights defender Ayman Aqeel, head of trustees of the Maat Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights said: “Egypt's winning membership of the United Nations International Law Commission today is one of the victories of Egyptian diplomacy, and it is an international recognition of the legitimacy of June 30 and the entity and sovereignty of the Egyptian state.”
Honorary privilege
