Partners for Transparency: 76 incidents of corruption in the government last March

Within the framework of the “Corruption Status Book” series, “Partners for Transparency pft” issued its ninth report, which included monitoring and analysis of corruption facts in March 2016.

The Foundation monitored 76 incidents of corruption during last March, and the President of the Republic dismissed Counselor Hisham Geneina, former head of the Central Auditing Organization, against the background of what was raised by a report issued by the agency related to the cost of corruption, and a counter report prepared by a special committee that proved the inaccuracy of the agency’s report. What sparked a severe wave of controversy in the Egyptian street.

The report, of which Al-Tahrir obtained a copy, revealed that the month of March 2016 witnessed Parliament's refusal to introduce the “Integrity and Transparency” committee, and the same month witnessed several statements and meetings of administrative committees to combat corruption, without influencing legislation or decisions, as for the statistical distribution of facts. Corruption on the various ministries and sectors, the Ministry of Supply won the largest share of corruption incidents with 16 incidents, out of a total of 76 incidents, followed by each of the localities sector, with 7 incidents, and agriculture and education, with 6 incidents each.

As for the judicial position, the facts under investigation came first among corruption incidents during March 2016, where they received the largest percentage, with 59 %, while both the incidents under trial and the incidents that were not investigated were equal, with a rate of 16%, and the verdicts came to the verdict. Ranked last with 9% percentage of total incidents.

The report also revealed that Cairo governorate received the largest share of corruption incidents, with 24 cases, followed by Giza governorate with 7 incidents. Editing
