Partners for Transparency Organization (PFT) launched an initiative - the first of its kind in Egypt - to monitor electoral financing and spending in a number of electoral districts. The initiative bears the slogan “Our Voices Against Your Money”
Partners for Transparency, through the initiative “Our Voices Against Your Money”, seeks to contribute to achieving the integrity of the upcoming House of Representatives elections by opposing the phenomenon of using money to influence the will of the electorate, in addition to developing effective “approaches” and tools that can be used extensively later. To strengthen the role of civil society organizations in monitoring “electoral financing and spending,” and to ensure that candidates and parties adhere to the governing legal frameworks.
The initiative will be implemented in “five governorates” which are the governorates of Cairo, Fayoum, Alexandria, Dakahlia and Port Said. The governorates and districts within each governorate have been selected to give a good indication of the nature of the funding, financial spending throughout the electoral process, as well as to facilitate the process of disseminating results, recommendations and tools. That will come up with the initiative.
In adherence to the principle of transparency, and the involvement of different community parties in discussing the initiative and its details, Partners for Transparency "PFT" has presented a background paper that clarifies the intellectual, legal and methodological framework that you will adhere to in the follow-up process. The paper "attached to this statement" includes a detailed explanation of the legislative frameworks and justifications. On which the initiative is based, in addition to presenting the methodology that will be followed, the axes covered in the monitoring process, and the targeted geographical scope.
Dr. Walaa Jad Al-Karim, Director of Partners for Transparency, says that the issue of “electoral financing and spending” is one of the main issues that determine - along with other issues - the extent of the integrity of the electoral process, and the extent to which its final results express the true will of the electorate, and to what extent “Money” was a factor affecting the course of the political process, and indicates that “partners” are committed in their work to a specific scientific methodology and go beyond the “randomness of follow-up processes”. Therefore, the aforementioned “background paper” was presented, stressing the welcome of “Partners for Transparency” PFT With any observations or suggestions that are in the interest of “improving the methodology used”.
It is worth noting that "Partners for Transparency PFT"
