As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, “Partners for Transparency” continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up on corruption incidents, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during August 2021, and classifying them by sector. Geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are most concentrated.
According to the Foundation's report, the month of August recorded 261 corruption incidents in nine major sectors, compared to 169 incidents recorded last July, an increase of 54%, which reflects an increase in corruption incidents witnessed in August. Violations related to the catering sector - as usual - topped the corruption incidents during the month of August, as 157 corruption incidents were monitored, with a rate of 59% of the total corruption incidents, and the health sector came in second place with 38 corruption incidents and 15% of the incidents.
Geographically, during the month of August, Al-Buhaira governorate topped the Egyptian governorates in terms of the number of corruption incidents with about 30 incidents and 11% of the total incidents under study, followed by Giza governorate with 21 incidents and 8% of the total incidents. Then Sharkia Governorate 16 cases of corruption, followed by the governorates of Alexandria and Qalyubia with 15 cases.
