The Corruption Status Report, issued by Partners for Transparency, monitored 94 incidents of corruption last March, through the media or regulatory agencies, as incidents of corruption in the Ministry of Supply witnessed a relative retreat from last February, for the first time. Dr. Walaa Gad al-Karim, director of the Foundation, explained to Al-Fajr that corruption incidents decreased with supply, despite their continuing to occupy the forefront of the corrupt sectors, namely the localities and health, and that the governorates of Cairo and Giza are the most controlling of the largest percentage of these incidents.
Gad al-Karim indicated that the statements of Anisa Hassouna, a member of the House of Representatives, will soon discuss the proposed law submitted by her to establish a coordinating body to combat corruption, especially that the legislative environment needs a law that limits the incidents of corruption after the report revealed that the facts that are still under investigation come in The first place among corruption incidents last March, with a percentage of 74% out of a total of 94 incidents, followed by the cases under trial with a percentage of 12%, as for the cases that were judged, they ranked 9 %, and the incidents that were not investigated came in the last place with a percentage of 5%, which means that 95% of proceedings under litigation.
For its part, Egyptians Without Borders called for the need for the government to activate the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which was issued by the government in 2014 during the era of former Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, and which is working on developing legislation and governing frameworks for the exchange of information between the authorities concerned with combating corruption, and the automation of financial disclosure statements. Availability of information and data on the activities of the state's administrative apparatus, and reports of the regulatory authorities in accordance with the constitution.
The organization called for the inclusion of civil society representatives for the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission of the Council of Ministers until the independent anti-corruption commission is formed, with the announcement of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission program, enabling civil society institutions to exercise their role in oversight and accountability, and ensuring the independence of the judiciary in order to hold the corrupt accountable and recover the stolen money. As well as the speedy parliament issuance of the two laws on freedom of information circulation, protection of whistleblowers, witnesses and experts, and the establishment of an independent commission to combat corruption.
