Partners call for speeding up the adoption of anti-corruption legislation
Partners for Transparency Foundation issued its monthly report “Corruption Report for November 2024”, which revealed a slight decrease in the number of corruption incidents recorded compared to last October, as 81 corruption incidents were recorded compared to 82 incidents in the previous month, representing a decrease of 1.2%. The report indicated that the financial and banking sector continued to lead the most corrupt sectors with a percentage of 43.2% of the total corruption incidents recorded during the month.
Commenting on the report, Ahmed Issa, Director of the Research and Studies Unit at Partners Foundation, said: “The November Corruption Record Report coincides with the second anniversary of the launch of the third phase of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2023-2030.” He added that it is necessary to enact and amend legislation targeting the fight against corruption, such as the Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers and Witnesses and the Law on Illicit Gains, which are covered by the strategy.
Finally, the report recommends several measures to combat corruption, including strengthening oversight of the financial and banking sector to combat money laundering, intensifying inspection campaigns on unlicensed educational entities, and strengthening oversight in the catering sector.
