As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, Partners for Transparency continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up on corruption incidents, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during July 2021, and classifying them by sector. Geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are most concentrated.

According to the Foundation's report, the month of July recorded 169 corruption incidents in twelve main sectors, compared to 152 incidents recorded last June, an increase of 10%, which reflects an increase in corruption incidents in July. Violations related to the catering sector - as usual - topped the corruption incidents during the month of July, as 112 corruption incidents were monitored, with a rate of 66% of the total corruption incidents, and the health sector came in second place with 19 corruption incidents and 11% of the incidents.

Geographically, during the month of July, Al Sharqiya governorate topped the Egyptian governorates in terms of the number of corruption incidents with about 19 incidents and 11% of the total incidents under study, followed by Beheira governorate with 16 incidents and 9% of the total incidents. On the other hand, 6 governorates combined, “Sharqiya, Beheira, Giza, Cairo, Gharbia, and Menoufia,” represent 51% of corruption incidents at the level of the Republic, which makes them the most corrupt governorates during July 2021.
