Partners for Transparency held an Arab electronic debate between young people from different Arab countries to discuss the role of dialogue in the strategy of confronting hate speech. Its impact on the regulations to confront hate speech, this came as part of a campaign to combat hate speech launched by Partners for Transparency in advance.
Today’s debate was between young people from Tunisia, Syria and Egypt, where the debaters debated the saying that “dialogue is the best tool to combat hate speech in the Euro-Mediterranean region.” It has ideas and suggestions that decision makers should consider when developing strategies to combat hate speech.
The debaters and the audience made very important recommendations that stemmed from their conscious understanding of their present and their society; These recommendations revolved around the importance of dialogue and emphasizing its important role, but this will not be without awareness built on solid foundations during their years of education, especially in the early stages of it. The role of laws and legislation in deterring it locally and internationally also came.
Myrna Shalash, President of the Egyptian Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation and Executive Director of the Partners Foundation, stressed the importance of the debate and explained the role of the Anna Linda Foundation for Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue between Cultures, especially the Egyptian Network, in enriching dialogue between all layers of the Euro-Mediterranean society and spreading awareness of its importance through its various activities from Forums, lectures and debates targeting important issues, and recommended the importance of constructive cooperation between individuals, governments and civil society organizations to combat hate speech
