Partners for Transparency (in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council) organized a side event today entitled “Refugees in Europe” on the sidelines of the 50th session of the Human Rights Council
The session was moderated by Myrna Shalash, Executive Director of Partners for Transparency, who emphasized that asylum is a fundamental right and an international obligation of states.
Researcher Musa Kurt in International Cooperation in the Field of Human Rights referred to the situation of refugees in Europe, and Europe's "double standards" for refugees compared to its lack of welcome for refugees from Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere.
Samar Zaghoul, Project Manager and Researcher at the Bufod Institute for Culture and Development of International Relations in Culture in Slovenia, presented the obstacles and challenges facing refugees in Europe, especially Arab and Muslim women refugees, and spoke about discrimination and hate speech against Arab refugee women.
