Egypt wins the loudest votes in the elections for the United Nations Economic Council

Egypt received the loudest votes in the elections of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of Human Beings that were held at the Economic and Social Council at the United Nations headquarters today in New York.

Ambassador Amr Abu Al-Ata, Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations, said that the great success achieved by the Egyptian candidate, Dr. Mohamed Ezz El-Din, in those elections and his obtaining the highest votes among the candidates for membership of this committee, reflects the international community's confidence in the Egyptian competencies and expertise.

He added that the confidence of the developing countries in the ability of the Egyptian candidates to express their concerns regarding the issue of economic, social and cultural rights of human beings is a priority especially for those countries.

Abu Al-Atta pointed out that this success reflects the great interest that the Egyptian foreign policy attaches to enhancing interest in the economic, social and cultural human rights file, within the framework of Egypt's principled approach to human rights issues, which is keen to balance the interest in the various rights stipulated in international agreements and covenants.

It is worth noting that the committee reviews states' reports on the state of economic, social and cultural human rights in member states, and submits its reports to the United Nations.Vito
