23% Decrease in the Corruption and Supply Index at the forefront of the facts
As part of the “Corruption Casebook” series, Partners for Transparency continues to issue monthly reports to monitor and follow up corruption incidents in Egypt, which focus on monitoring and analyzing legislative and procedural developments related to combating corruption, as well as listing the facts that were revealed during the month of December 2021. and categorizing them sectorally and geographically, with the aim of identifying the sectors that witness the most corruption incidents, as well as the governorates in which these incidents are most concentrated.
According to the Foundation's report, December 2021 recorded a significant decrease in the number of corruption incidents, as 166 incidents were recorded compared to 216 incidents recorded last November, which represents a decrease of 23% in the corruption index by the end of 2021. The catering sector, as usual, topped the sectors The most corrupt, with 90 incidents of corruption, 54% of the total incidents witnessed in December, followed closely by the agriculture sector and land encroachments with 28 incidents and 17% of the total incidents under study, and the localities sector came in third place with 19 corruption incidents and 12% of the total incidents of corruption .
Geographically, Al-Buhaira governorate ranked first in the Egyptian governorates in terms of corruption incidents during the month of December, with 20 incidents and 12% of the total incidents, followed by Sharkia governorate with 15 incidents and 9% of the total incidents, while Giza governorate ranked third with 14 incident, then Dakahlia with 13 incidents. And six governorates combined, namely “Beheira, Giza, Sharkia, Dakahlia, Cairo, and Minya” recorded 49% of the total incidents of corruption at the level of the Republic, which makes them the most corrupt governorates during December.
