Walaa Jad al-Karim, president of Partners for Transparency, said that the proposal to add provisions for misdemeanor demonstrations and peaceful assembly to the criminal newspaper is an “attempt to distort peaceful protest,” adding, “These people were locked up because they objected and protested that their feminists should not be killed or stolen.”
The Ministry of Justice prepared a project to amend some of the provisions of the Minister of Justice’s decision regarding the Registry of precedents, which would prove and show the judicial rulings issued in the case of misdemeanors related to gathering, demonstrating, terrorism, and harming the government from within and explosives, in the criminal case papers (criminal offense) for citizens who were punished with any penalty for those misdemeanors .
Gad al-Karim indicated to Masrawy, on Wednesday, that the crimes that are included in the Criminal Status Document are only crimes that violate honor, and the provisions for demonstrations cannot be added within them.
"The suggestion is a test balloon for the Egyptian street, and a negative message that there is no other demonstration, as is the demonization of the peaceful protest process," he added.
