Report: Regulators uncovered 64 incidents of corruption in July ... and the wheat scandal of the season

Partners for Transparency PFT issued, within the framework of the "Corruption Status Book" series, the thirteenth report, which included monitoring and analysis of corruption incidents in July 2016, as the Foundation monitored 64 corruption incidents during the month, which are the facts that were revealed through Investigation authorities, parliament and various media.

The report pointed out that, according to what the regulatory authorities announced, it was only during the month of July that it was able to uncover the biggest corruption case in the wheat silos. Where the committee made several visits, and explained that the amount of money wasted during only 9 visits is estimated at 600 million pounds until the end of July.

The committee confirmed that it will issue a final report on the wasted money, which prompted the prosecution to summon approximately 36 people, including a senior official at the Ministry of Supply and a businessman, to be involved in this case, and the month also witnessed statements by some MPs about local corruption.

In terms of facts, the Foundation’s report indicated that the Ministry of Supply had the largest share of corruption incidents during the month of July 2016, with a score of 15 corruption incidents, which the regulatory authorities succeeded in uncovering, out of a total of 64 incidents, followed by the Ministry of Agriculture with 10 incidents of corruption, followed by the Localities with 9 incidents, then the health sector with 8 incidents of corruption, then the Ministries of Electricity and Justice came with 3 incidents for each of them.

As for the judicial position, the report revealed that the incidents under investigation came first among corruption incidents during the month of July 2016, where the largest percentage was recorded at 66%, out of a total of 64 incidents, followed by the incidents under trial by 11%, then the facts that were not investigated came. It has a score of 17%, and the cases that have been judged come last with a percentage of 6% of the total incidents.

As for the geographical distribution, Cairo governorate still occupies the largest share of corruption incidents during the month of July 2016, due to the concentration of administrative headquarters there, as it received 23 corruption incidents, followed by Sharkia governorate with 5 incidents of corruption, then Minya and Sohag governorates with 4 incidents each.
