Water for all .. On World Water Day, we condemn the partners of Ethiopia and Turkey using water to put pressure on opponents

On World Water Day, the Partners for Transparency Foundation praises the annual theme identified by the United Nations Water Commission for the year 2021, which is water valuation through attention to five dimensions, which are natural sources of water, storage and treatment infrastructure, drinking and sanitation services, and contributing to economic activity Social, interest in recreational, cultural and spiritual aspects.
In the same context, Partners for Transparency is concerned that Turkey continues to use water as a pressure card on the forces opposing it in both Syria and Iraq, especially through the policy of river embankments that it is building on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, as this policy has caused the Syrians' share of water to decline. The water of the Euphrates River to less than a quarter of the internationally agreed quantity, and the Ilisu Dam on the Tigris River caused the decline of Iraq's share of the river’s water to a rate of up to 60%.
The Partners Foundation also condemns what Ethiopia is trying to impose by following the de-facto policy during the negotiation stages on points of contention between the three parties, and stresses the importance of reaching a legal agreement binding the three parties before the phase of the second filling of the reservoir during the next flood period, as reaching understandings This would enhance the joint utilization of this important water resource for the basin countries in general, and avoid countries entering into collisions that may amount to the use of military force.
Therefore, Partners for Transparency recommends that the countries of international watercourses must abide by the rules established by the United Nations Convention for the Use of Watercourses for Other than Navigational Purposes, which include the fair and reasonable use of water, and to refrain from any actions that result in significant harm to the rest of the countries in the stream.
Partners Foundation also recommends the need to pressure both Turkey and Ethiopia, to stop the first from using water to pressure neighboring countries, and to stop the second from imposing a fait accompli on downstream countries, threatening each other's water security.
