Al-Ghad: Civil society organizations must respect parliamentary candidates

Mona Obaid

Musa Mustafa Musa, head of the Al-Ghad Party, expressed his dissatisfaction with the number of emerging civil society institutions that are inserting themselves in the process of monitoring the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying: “We are committed to the decisions issued by the Supreme Committee supervising the elections with regard to monitoring the financial spending of electoral propaganda for candidates in Parliament. Next, only the organizations monitoring the electoral process as a whole must be carefully selected according to the criteria of competence and experience.

In special statements to the "veto", he called on civil society institutions to monitor financial spending, to respect the candidates even if they were proven to have any financial violations, especially since most of them come from ancient families, refusing to impose a possible penalty on the violator.

He continued, saying: It is possible that the candidate’s relative is the one who helps him in the election campaign, so we must respect the candidate’s person, especially since most of them have long-standing relationships.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Walaa Abdel-Karim, director of Partners for Transparency, announced earlier that an initiative to monitor the financial spending of electoral campaigning for candidates for the next parliament, under the slogan “Our Voices Against Your Money,” had been launched. The initiative would include about 20 individuals divided between an observer financial analyst as well as 40 volunteers to collect information. Necessary and detection of electoral irregularities.
