In a new cooperation between the Egyptian authorities and their Italian counterparts, the Public Prosecution delegation headed by Counselor Nabil Sadiq, the Attorney General, met with the Italian Public Prosecution delegation headed by “Giuseppe Beniatoni”, the Attorney General of Rome, to find out the latest developments in the criminal investigation conducted by the Egyptian Public Prosecution into the murder of the Italian student. Giulio Regeni.
Full case report
During the meeting, the two parties exchanged important information about the developments that the two sides have reached so far, and during the meeting the Egyptian Public Prosecutor delivered a full and detailed report, on the results of the analysis of the telephone calls monitored by the stations of the mobile companies in the areas of disappearance and the discovery of the body.
The acquittal of the Cairo gang
The Egyptian Public Prosecutor confirmed that there are weak doubts about the connection of the so-called "New Cairo Gang" in the involvement of one of its members in the death of "Regeni", and the meeting ended with the two representatives ’pledge to continue exchanging information and documents to reach the common goal to reach the truth of Regeni's death.

Exploitation of slow investigations

In this regard, human rights lawyer Saeed Abdel-Hafez, president of the Dialogue Forum for Development and Human Rights, said, “There is no doubt in knowing the truth about the killing of the Italian student, Giulio Regeni, which is the goal that we were all seeking as jurists and government officials, and there is no doubt that the delay in not Access to the truth has damaged Egypt's economic and political position, and the slow pace of investigations has been used internationally to the detriment of the Egyptian state.
Truth train ride

"Abdel-Hafez" added in exclusive statements to "Vito" that after the meeting of the Public Prosecutor, the Egyptian and his Italian counterpart, and the positive results that resulted from him, the Egyptian state is taking the correct train that will lead it to the naked truth station to find out who is behind Regeni's murder, until the student's family calms down. And the entire international community, and Egypt gets rid of the negative images that have been stuck in it as a result of this issue.
Disclosure of information

Dr. Walaa Gad Al-Karim, president of Partners for Transparency, said, “The Egyptian side was very late in disclosing some information that it tried to conceal during the last period about the circumstances of the killing of“ Regeni ”, pointing out that the statement of the Public Prosecution on Friday is the right start. Which should have started with the progress of the case months ago.
Inner not getting involved

“I am convinced that the Egyptian police were not involved in the killing of Regeni, but the manner in which they dealt with it, as well as the Public Prosecution from the beginning of the investigations and even before the Attorney General’s last statement, was suspicious, and it gives a justification to the side,” Gad al-Karim added in exclusive statements to “Vito”. The Italian may question the seriousness of the Egyptian investigations.
Wrong filtering of those involved

He pointed out that the statement revealed the case of the liquidation of the five people, and the Ministry of the Interior announced in a previous statement that they were involved in the killing of Regeni, and this is what questions the investigation of the members of the ministry who are involved with this gang and hold the responsible accountable.

In July this year, the Italian Senate approved a decision to stop supplying Egypt with spare parts for F-16 warplanes, in the first trade sanctions against Cairo. Italy has repeatedly complained about the lack of cooperation of the Egyptian authorities in the investigations of the 28-year-old Regeni case. Last April, Rome withdrew its ambassador to Cairo for consultations.
