The minister’s consultant was caught receiving a bribe of EGP 4.5m The health minister’s consultant for medical centre affairs Ahmed A. was arrested by security forces on Sunday night after the Administrative Prosecution received a tip-off. The defendant was caught receiving bribes, in the form of cheques for a total of EGP 4.5m, at the ministry headquarters, according to an official statement by the Health Ministry. Full results are still pending investigation by the prosecution, but the bribe is believed to be from a medical equipment company, the ministry added. 50% of citizens say they have bribed government officials: Transparency International

Bribery is particularly common in Egypt, Yemen, Morocco and Sudan with 40%-60% of bribes being paid to court officials in Egypt, says report International watchdog Transparency International (TI) has released a year-long survey on corruption in the Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA). The report’s key findings state that nearly one in three individuals in MENA countries have paid bribes to government officials. A total of 85 corruption incidents took place in different ministries and governmental offices in September, Independent Observatory Partners for Transparency (PFT) announced in its monthly report on monitoring corruption. Among all facilities with corruption, the Ministry of Supply was accused most of corruption, with 18 incidents in September. Corruption report highlights widespread vice in government institutions

Partners for Transparency (PFT), a recently launched NGO that has been working on corruption files, issued two reports for the 2015 count of cases. It reported 71 cases in July, which increased to 104 in August. The PFT reports highlight corruption cases in ministries, but also in other government institutions such as judiciary and press institutions, as well as private companies. However, the highest reported cases occurred in local administrations and ministries.
