Eng. Mamdouh Hamza, a professor of consulting engineering and a political activist, recounted a question posed to him by a journalist in which he asked about the difference between corruption in the days of the ousted President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak and corruption in the current era.

“A journalist asked me yesterday about the difference between corruption in the days of Mubarak and corruption now,” Hamzah said in a post on his personal page on the Twitter site.

Hamzah continued, "The answer: It was corruption in brokerage and then it became corruption in control."

It is noteworthy that corruption in Egypt has reached frightening levels, according to a study prepared by the Partners for Transparency Foundation in early September of last year.

The study recorded 1,102 incidents of corruption in state institutions, from July 2015 to June 2016, with three cases of corruption per day, while court rulings were issued only in 57 cases only. The foundation estimated the corruption bill at more than one trillion pounds from 2000 until now.
